Sixteen Feet of Togetherness

A New Chapter, Designed Around Them

For this newly married retired couple, remodeling wasn’t simply about updating their kitchen. It was about rethinking their home to better reflect who they are, how they live, and what comes next.

The transformation begins with the kitchen. What was once a more closed-off space with a peninsula has been opened up dramatically, creating a bright, welcoming hub centered around an impressive 16-foot island. There’s now room for cooking, conversation, entertaining, and plenty of seats for guests to pull up and stay awhile.

But the biggest change happened behind the scenes.

By reworking the home’s existing spaces, the remodel created a dedicated walk-in pantry, complete with warm wood cabinetry, generous countertops, and open shelving for appliances, dishes, and everyday essentials. It functions almost like a second kitchen, keeping the main space clean and uncluttered while putting everything needed for entertaining within easy reach.

The same thoughtful approach carried into the new laundry and mudroom. Rich wood cabinetry, a generous work surface, sink, and built-in storage turn an often-overlooked utility space into one that’s both highly functional and beautifully finished. A custom drop zone adds another layer of everyday organization, giving coats, bags, and other essentials a designated home.

Throughout the project, a sophisticated combination of crisp painted cabinetry, warm wood tones, elegant hardware, and classic detailing creates a look that feels polished without feeling precious. Even the powder room carries the design language forward with its tailored cabinetry, dark countertop, and statement mirror.

The result is a home that feels open, organized, and distinctly personal; a space designed not just for retirement, but for everything this couple plans to enjoy together in the years ahead.

Sometimes creating the right home doesn’t require adding more space. It simply takes reimagining the space you already have.
